After years of speculation, Rural King is officially coming to Lancaster.
The farm supply retailer is currently finalizing agreements with River Valley Mall and has already cleared several major hurdles. A series of successful zoning meetings has resulted in approvals for key requests made by the company.
Rural King will occupy the former Elder-Beerman department store, marking yet another example of the retailer moving into former anchor spaces at malls — a trend they are pursuing in several locations across the country.
According to recent filings, Rural King is set to acquire the parcel that previously housed Elder-Beerman. Approval has also been granted for the company to control a portion of the parking lot, part of River Valley Drive, and to use some of the parking area for large outdoor merchandise displays.
At this time, no official opening date has been announced. However, progress on the project is being closely followed as anticipation builds for the store’s arrival.
There is also insider speculation that Rural King may eventually purchase River Valley Mall outright, undertake renovations, and assume responsibility for leasing to other tenants. If that were to happen, it could be a major step toward revitalizing the struggling shopping center.
