Lancaster comes alive with beloved traditions as November winds down and December approaches, and here at Discover Glass Town, we couldn’t be more excited. The holiday season is officially kicking off, and two unmistakable signs are lighting the way to Christmas!
First up: the Annual Holiday Parade returns on November 22nd, transforming our streets into a festive celebration that brings the whole community together.

Every year, spectators bundle up, grab their favorite viewing spot, and line the streets—often an hour before the fun begins. The parade steps off from the Fairfield County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m., traveling down Columbus Street toward downtown Lancaster. From there, it rolls over to Main Street, turning east before making its final left turn onto Broad Street, ending back at the fairgrounds' main entrance.

The number of parade entries seems to grow each year, showcasing a vibrant mix of local businesses, marching bands, civic groups, churches, and—of course—the man himself, Santa Claus.
This year’s theme, “Santa’s Workshop,” promises plenty of creativity and festive fun. Attendees are encouraged to snap photos, cheer on their favorites, and enjoy the imaginative ways participants bring the workshop to life.

Another beloved tradition that officially launches Lancaster and Fairfield County into the holiday season is the Fairfield County Festival of Lights, opening Thanksgiving evening at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. Presented by Keller Farms, this enchanting annual event is brought to life by dedicated staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to make the magic happen.

Each year, the fairgrounds transform into a glowing drive-thru adventure filled with themed light displays. From the whimsical “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” scene to a fully illuminated vintage fire truck, massive wreaths, dragons, beloved cartoon characters, and a synchronized light show, there’s something around every corner to wow visitors of all ages.
And the fun doesn’t stop with the lights—guests can enjoy character meet-and-greets, plus photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus near the concession stand toward the end of the route. For updates on character appearances and special nights, follow the Festival of Lights Facebook page.

This year, the Fairfield County Festival of Lights is introducing two exciting new experiences for visitors to enjoy.
Horse-drawn carriage rides, provided by Featherdale Carriage Company, will be available on select nights throughout the season. These rides must be purchased in advance through their ticketing page and cost $10 per person, in addition to the festival’s $10 per-car admission. The open-air carriage operates in most weather conditions, so guests are encouraged to dress warmly. During the ride, visitors will also have the chance to stop at the concession area for about 20 minutes before continuing their journey through the lights.

The second new feature is The Land of Sweets, a life-sized, interactive holiday board game created by Two Seasons Studio. Located near the concession stand, this whimsical, candy-themed experience allows guests to step onto a colorful game path and move through festive “lands,” making joyful memories along the way. The cost to play is $5 per participant. Whether you prefer a cozy drive through the lights in your own car or the charm of a horse-drawn carriage, the Fairfield County Festival of Lights will be shining brightly from Thanksgiving through December 25th. It’s a magical way to celebrate the season—and a tradition that continues to grow more enchanting every year.

Lancaster’s holiday spirit is ready to shine—the parade and the opening of the Fairfield County Festival of Lights are just the beginning. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate the magic of the season all across Glass Town!
